About IPlantE |
IPlantE (the Institution of Plant Engineers) was founded in 1946 and is the professional sector for engineers, technicians and those involved with the specification, installation, operation and maintenance of industrial plant.
IPlantE members represent a huge spread of engineering-related activities, ranging from static and rotating plant to industrial installations, mobile plant, power generation and distribution, system design, production and maintenance and repair. They are also work in all sectors, including process, manufacturing, utilities, transportation, construction, commercial buildings and the armed forces.
IPlantE is one of the three core professional sectors of the Society of Operations Engineers (SOE, see below), whose primary aims include independently certifying and supporting members, whatever their level. For that reason, membership classes reflect the achievements of members at each stage of their professional career. The classes also reflect the Society’s inclusive ethos, ranging from Student to Fellow – recognising the far-reaching and multi-disciplinary nature of plant and operations engineering, as well as the differing levels of engineering experience.
IPlantE runs a variety of professional activities through its regional branches, as well as national seminars on topics such as the ATEX and DSEAR regulations and health and safety in the workplace, which play an important part in helping to keep its members up-to-date with current legislation, guidelines and best practice.
